Haitian Taskforce Letter to Members of Congress

Dear Members of the United States Congress,

I am writing to bring to your attention the dire situation in Haiti, particularly in the local community served by Now for Christ Orphanage, which I founded. As the president of Children for Change International in Brooklyn, NY, I am compelled to raise awareness about the atrocities being committed against children in Haiti.

The recent brutal murder of a 16-year-old boy from our orphanage, who refused to join a local gang, has traumatized our children and staff. This incident, coupled with the beheading of a pastor, the shooting of his wife, and the stabbing of their four-year-old child, highlights the desperate need for intervention.

Our orphanage, which houses 35 children and feeds 50 daily, is struggling to provide basic necessities due to food shortages and disrupted humanitarian aid. The children and staff live in terror, seeking refuge at a nearby police precinct at night.

I urge you to support our call for intervention by the United States and the United Nations to address the constant human rights violations against children in Haiti, including:

• The killing of children
• The recruiting of children into gangs
• The raping of and other forms of sexual violence against children
• The kidnapping and abduction of children
• The violent attack on schools and children's hospitals
• The violent disruption of humanitarian support and access to foreign aid and healthcare

We have attached signatures from expatriates and friends of Haiti who join us in requesting immediate action.

Je vous écris pour attirer votre attention sur la situation désastreuse en Haïti, en particulier dans la communauté locale desservie par l'orphelinat Now for Christ, que j'ai fondé. En tant que présidente de Children for Change International à Brooklyn, New York, je me sens obligée de sensibiliser les gens aux atrocités commises contre les enfants en Haïti.

Le récent meurtre brutal d'un garçon de 16 ans de notre orphelinat, qui refusait de rejoindre un gang local, a traumatisé nos enfants et notre personnel. Cet incident, associé à la décapitation d'un pasteur, à la fusillade de sa femme et à l'assassinat de leur enfant de quatre ans, met en évidence le besoin désespéré d'une intervention.

Notre orphelinat, qui héberge 35 enfants et en nourrit 50 par jour, a du mal à subvenir aux besoins de première nécessité en raison des pénuries alimentaires et de l'interruption de l'aide humanitaire. Les enfants et le personnel vivent dans la terreur et cherchent refuge la nuit dans un commissariat de police voisin.

Je vous exhorte à soutenir notre appel à une intervention des États-Unis et des Nations Unies pour remédier aux violations constantes des droits humains contre les enfants en Haïti, notamment :

• Le meurtre d'enfants
• Le recrutement d'enfants dans des gangs
• Le viol et autres formes de violences sexuelles contre les enfants
• Le kidnapping et l'enlèvement d'enfants
• Les violentes attaques contre les écoles et les hôpitaux pour enfants
• La perturbation violente de l'aide humanitaire et de l'accès aux soins de santé

Nous avons joint les signatures d'expatriés et d'amis d'Haïti qui se joignent à nous pour demander une action immédiate.
